Lombard Acts of Kindness Week
Things you can do for our school:
Design and put up a hallway bulletin board (See Ms. Keith)
Thank the bus driver or crossing guard that helps to get you safely to and from school every day.
Pick up the litter outside of Lombard
Things to do when you see an adult in the building:
Smile and say, “Welcome to Lombard. We’re glad you are here.”
If they look lost say, “Can I help you? Do you need me to show you where something is located?”
Hold open a door for someone (inside doors only please for everyone’s safety).
Things you can do for our students:
That really great coat that you outgrew last year, bring it in for a student that doesn’t have one.
Find five people that you never met and say hello.
Invite someone new to sit at lunch with you.
Introduce a new friend to an old friend.
Take the time to learn one of the student’s names in the Life Skills class so that you can say hello to them when you see them in the hall.
Things you can do for our teachers and our classroom aides:
Bring in a box of pencils.
Write a note to your favorite teacher telling them how they impacted your life.
Grab an extra box of kleenex at the store for your classroom.
Pay more attention to the lesson and less attention to your friends during class time.
Things you can do in the classroom:
Push in all the chairs at the end of class.
Put things back so that the next class has a nice room to come in to.
Know what teachers don’t have time for- eating. Make a special treat for your teachers.
Things you can do in the cafeteria:
Make sure your entire table is clean before you leave.
That spoon someone dropped under the table- pick it up and return it with your tray.
Make sure you let the kitchen staff know how much you appreciate that you can get a hot lunch every.
Things you can do for our secretaries:
Let Mrs. Gibson know how much you appreciate her taking care of you when the nurse is gone.
Let Ms. Harris know how much you appreciate her worrying about why you are not at school that day.
Let Mrs. Mills know how much you appreciate how she maintains all the budgets and ordering and keeps our school running smoothly.
Things you can do for our administrators:
Find out their favorite snack and bring it in to them.
When corrected listen, learn, look them in the eye, and promise them you will make better choices next time- then do it.
Stop and say hello, good morning, have a nice day, glad you are here, thank you.
Things you could do for our custodians:
Pick up your feet in the hall so they don’t have to spend hours cleaning those black scuff marks.
Find a sink and pour out the rest of your drink before throwing it in that trash can.
Offer to take your teacher’s recycling to the recycling bin.
Offer to carry one of those bags or boxes they are carrying.
Help pick up the bleachers after a home game.
Say thank you for cleaning our school.
See something on the hallway floor- pick it up so our school looks nice.
Make sure all books are up off the floor to make sweeping easier.
Thing you can do in your home and our community:
Pick up the litter around your neighborhood.
Hold the door for someone.
Take the time to thank that adult in your life that is there for you every day.
Help out at home without being asked.
Rake or mow or take the trash out or help carry in groceries for your neighbor.
Volunteer at the shelter to walk the dogs.
Bring some food to the Fish Food Pantry for those in need.
Clean out your closets and donate it to your church, Goodwill, the Salvation Army, someone younger than you that needs it.
Take off your headphones, put down your phone or your game controller, stop texting, tweeting, and facebooking and spend some real time with someone.
Try to go a whole day saying only positive, supportive, helpful things to others.
And most importantly of all: when you see someone being treated badly Stand Up and Speak Out!
